About the Business
After qualifying in 1998 I worked with Professor Ellis at the pain clinic in Chapel Allerton Hospital, Leeds. Here I gained valuable experience in the management and treatment of chronic pain.
I set up a private clinic with two acupuncturists in Leeds and stayed there for two years. I then moved down to Gloucestershire in 2000 where I have now decided to settle. My current practice is at St Paul's Medical Centre, Cheltenham where I have been working full-time for the last eight years. In 2004 I had the opportunity to travel to China and work in a hospital in Nanjing. There were nine beds on the acupuncture ward and a constant stream of people coming in for treatment. Apart from the usual bad backs, headaches, etc., we saw a lot of patients who had acupuncture following chemotherapy treatment for cancer. It is common in China to combine western medicine with eastern medicine. Both types of medical treatment have strengths and weaknesses.
