Flourish Hypnotherapy provides help for people with anxiety, low mood, relationship/life stage difficulties, fears and phobias and mind-body disorders.

Permanent change is effected through Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, which looks at your possible future, rather than dwelling on the past. Through talking and exploring what that future might hold we assemble the building blocks for change and begin to work towards that goal. Because steps are small and decided by the you, it is easier to make change.

Hypnosis, which is safe, and in which you are always in control, helps the unconscious mind to take on board what you hope to achieve and consolidates improvements.

My style is friendly, informal but professional. I believe the rapport between client and therapist is the single most important factor in making change.

My background is linguistics and psychology. I trained in medical and clinical hypnosis and hold the Hypnotherapy Practitioner Diploma, which proves that you have studied, answered questions about the ethics and practice of hypnotherapy and have worked the requisite number of hours face-to-face time clients. I am a member of the National Council for Hypnotherapy, whose members are all trained, qualified and insured.

I have enhanced DBS clearance, which means that I can work with children, young people and vulnerable adults.

What is hypnotherapy and how does it work?

Our brains work on two different levels: conscious and unconscious. The conscious is the rational, calculating part of the mind over which we have control. The unconscious is the part responsible for many life-preserving activities including appetite and sleeping, which are outside our control. Sometimes the two are in conflict, which explains why we indulge in activities which may not be best for us.

Deep relaxation quietens the conscious and allows the unconscious to focus and learn. This results in the potential to make healthy choices, let go of ingrained unwanted habits and unlearn unhelpful responses such as fear and anxiety.

How does a session start?

With a chat about your background - your life, your challenges, what you'd like to achieve. I will ask a few health and lifestyle questions and we'll talk about your lifestyle to help me tailor our sessions to your needs. The most important part of hypnotherapy is feeling at ease. Understanding and trust are vital to the process.

And then?

You’ll be sitting in a comfortable chair. By giving you directions to do with breathing and relaxation, I will enable you to relax and move towards hypnosis – a comfortable dreamlike state where you are awake and conscious but very deeply relaxed and open to positive suggestion. Then I will help you to respond differently to events or see troublesome issues in a different light.

How do I get back?

I will lead you back to full alertness gently. You may or may not remember what has been said. You will probably feel deeply relaxed, possibly a little tired, especially after the first session.

What next?

Practice makes permanent. You will receive a free CD of an appropriate session to reinforce our work together. At each session we will focus on success and improvement, rather than going back over problems. This makes for positive, forward-looking sessions, with success on the horizon.

I would recommend Sarah to anyone looking to conquer a fear or anyone wanting to de-stress and truly feel a sense of relaxation better than any spa day or massage could ever give. I went to Sarah for my fear of flying and in the short space of time we had before my holiday she dramatically improved my situation.
