About the Business
They believe that the body has its own inborn healing abilities so the primary aim of the centre is to provide the very best in natural and holistic healthcare allowing those innate abilities to work at their optimum levels. This is only possible with the correct information so the secondary aim of the Ishta Centre is to educate.
We offer information about all the therapies on offer and there will be regular open days for the public to come in and have a look around. There is a series of classes, workshops talks and seminars about how you can take charge of your own health.
We have a newsletter which is sent out every month or so to keep everyone up to date with what's happening at the Centre. We also have a download area where you can download audio programs which will give you a basic nutritional education. You can also download therapy brouchures there. The third aim of the centre is to be an information and advice point for issues relating to natural health.

Reiki
What is Reiki?
Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a Japanese technique for natural healing involving the placement of hands on or above the body in order to channel energy. Reiki is a technique for stress reduction and relaxation that allows everyone to tap into an unlimited supply of "life force energy" to improve health and enhance the quality of life.
It is gentle and stimulates the body's own innate wisdom, aiming at the cause of any problem and promoting a holistic balancing of body, mind and spirit.
How can Reiki help you?
Reiki can:
- cleanse the body of built up toxins.
- relieve pain.
- soothe shock.
- aid the grieving process.
- calm the mind and emotions.
- accelerate the body's natural ability to heal itself.
- promote a state of total relaxation and well-being.
Reiki in no way conflicts with medical procedures and in fact supports and enhances all medical treatments.
How does Reiki work?
The word Reiki is made up of two Japanese words, "Rei" meaning universal wisdom and "Ki" meaning life energy. Reiki can be described as 'universal life force energy' and it this that the Reiki practitioner transmits to the person receiving it.
Having a Reiki treatment:
A Reiki treatment is usually carried out with the recipient lying down on a bench, and remaining fully clothed though watches and jewellery may be best removed. The Reiki practitioner places their hands on or above the recipient's body at various positions, which in many traditions are regarded as corresponding to energy centres, or 'chakras'.
During the Reiki session you may feel sensations of heat, cold, tingling or no sensations whatsoever - this is not necessarily an indication that the Reiki is 'working' or not, everyone's experience is individual and may vary from one session to the next. It is almost always a very soothing experience and many people drift off into sleep. It can leave you feeling relaxed but at the same time as if your batteries have been recharged!
Acupuncture
What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is an ancient system of healing and the earliest texts date back 2500 years. This system of medicine has successfully been used in China from ancient times and is still used today. In the west acupuncture has been widely used in the treatment of pain but it has a much wider area of effectiveness when used to stimulate our own healing responses.
A network of meridians or channels allows energy or qi to flow to all parts of the body. If the energy flow is disrupted or cut off symptoms may occur. The stimulation of specific points along the meridian of energy will allow healing to take place.
What will acupuncture help?
Many people come to acupuncture for help with a specific symptom or condition. For example; anxiety states, arthritis, asthma, back pain, circulatory problems, depression, facial paralysis, high blood pressure, infertility, menstrual problems, migraines, rheumatism, sciatica, skin conditions or ulcers. Extensive practice and research has shown acupuncture's effectiveness in helping these and other conditions.
The effect of good acupuncture is to do more than simply cure the symptom. Acupuncture directed at restoring the overall energy balance will deal with the condition and help the patient feel better in a general way. A comment often heard is “I’m feeling much better in myself."
What to expect:
The initial consultation takes between 1- 11/2 hrs. A full history is taken which will include details of symptoms, medical history, sleep and dietary patterns and any other relevant information. A physical diagnosis is also taken where the blood pressure is recorded, the 12 Chinese pulses are read and the body's heat regulation is checked. Once a Chinese diagnosis has been determined treatment may begin.
To start treatment is usually on a weekly basis and as improvement occurs these treatments will be spaced further apart. The speed of improvement will vary form person to person. As each treatment is tailored to the individual 2 people with similar symptoms may receive very different treatment.
After Treatment:
It is advisable to have some quiet time to allow maximum benefit from the treatment to take place.
