About the Business

Founded in 2001 as a home based/mobile therapist, K2U Therapies moved to premises in North Road in February 2011, returning to Haughton Road in 2013, where the emphasis is on holistic health and well-being, beginning in the relaxation lounge with a full consultation. Enjoy the calm, relaxing ambiance while a personalised treatment to suit your requirements, enhanced by our heated treatment couches, is delivered by a highly – qualified therapist.

In 2014, a second clinic opened within The Beacon, at Catterick Garrison, offering our full list of Holstic Therapies, in addition to this K2U Therapies also provides treatments in corporate settings, including a local engineering company, nursing home and an office incubation centre. We also provide support to sporting and charity events.

The treatment menu features many of the popular massage therapies including Maternity wellbeing, alongside the less well known Daoyin Tao® (Chinese acupressure) and Reproductive Reflexology & Baby Reflexology.

Having taught therapies in local colleges since 2002, Kathryn Robinson realised the next part of her dream in February 2012, becoming accredited as a training academy for the awarding body, Vocational Training Charitable Trust, developing and delivering Level 3 qualifications in many massage therapies, taught over a period of time to meet the needs of the student and the criteria of the awarding body. Various study methods are used including Skype theory sessions for those unable to attend the training centre although attendance is mandatory for practical skills.

There are a number of workshops available at K2U Therapies Training Academy, whether you are interested in tips & techniques you can use in the home, a qualified therapist looking for additional skills or looking to gain a certificate in therapies such as Reiki, Crystals or Colour Therapy, we can tailor a workshop to meet your requirements.

K2U Training

K2U Training

VTCT is the specialist awarding body for the Hairdressing, Beauty Therapy, Complementary Therapy and Sport ad Active Leisure sectors, with over 45 years of experience. It is regulated by national organisations including Ofqual, SQA, DCELLS and CCEA. As a registered charity investing in education and skills the VTCT also donates to good causes in the area of facial disfigurement.

K2U Training offers a number of Level 2 & Level 3 Complementary Therapy qualifications, each developed to meet the criteria set out by VTCT. Unlike many training establishments, K2U Training does not offer crash courses or fully distance learning as we believe the student deserves education to be delivered in more appropriate time scales, an increased number of contact teaching hours allows a higher standard of tuition and the opportunity to develop a greater understanding.

Tutor/Principle:

Kathryn Robinson – having taught within further education establishments since 2002, felt the duration of courses and contact teaching hours were being decreased to the point of not allowing the student to gain sufficient in depth knowledge or high standard of practical skills to equip them for employment within the industry. After approaching the VTCT and completing the registration process, including two inspections, January 2012 saw K2U Therapies become an accredited training academy.

Payment Methods:

A non-refundable deposit is to be paid at the time of booking along with qualification registration fee. The balance may be paid in full prior to the course commencing or through a monthly payment plan. All fees must be paid before final assessments, certification will be withheld if full payment has not been received.

Methods of Learning:

Learning is blended to include theory based sessions, which in addition to being delivered on site can also be delivered either by skype or Google hangouts, home study assignments and workbooks, development of practical skills in a fully operational treatment clinic. Case studies will also be included in the home study. We are planning to move to new premises in September 2015 which would offer a treatment room available to students, at no additional cost, who find it difficult to carry out case studies in the home environment.

Assessment Methods:

Continual assessment is carried out throughout the course, workbooks and assignments will be set to confirm knowledge and understanding. In some units there will be an externally set mandatory written test. The assessor will carry out formal observations during clinical sessions to ensure the criteria for the practical elements has been met. Lever arch file will be provided by K2U Training.

Student Public Liability Insurance:

It is recommended that prior to beginning external case studies you source Student Public Liability Insurance. The Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT) is the leading professional body in the UK and Ireland. When you join as a student member you will receive free student treatment case study insurance for practising your treatments off campus.

The Holistic Approach

The Holistic Approach

Holistic therapies are natural methods of healing used alongside what Doctors’ surgeries and hospitals have to offer, sometimes known as ‘Complementary Therapies‘. They are a drug-free way of helping a wide range of health problems including headaches, insomnia, muscular aches and pains and symptoms of stress.

Holistic therapy is a title given to a variety of different methods of treatment that are based on the same principal: to help a person while taking into account their mind, body and spirit. In other words, holistic therapies treat the whole person, looking at the causes and not just treating the symptoms.

I agree Dan – I too was a member of the Tour De Cummins team and spent a breathtaking 4 days riding around beautiful countryside with a great set of lads but only made possible by the support vehicle and the back up that Kathryn provided. Fantastic massages that eased up tired and sore legs and the shoulder and neck messages were to die for. Will be booking a session first chance I get.

On Friday 3rd May myself and 7 other cyclists set of on the 4 day 425 mile le Tour de Cummins. Kathyrn (of k2utherapies) kindly volunteered to join us (in the support vehicle!) to provide sports massages after each long day in the saddle. These massages were not only much needed, but were also excellent as they left the team refreshed for the next leg of the ride. I have no doubt that it was because of this that the ride was completed with no muscular injury to any rider. I’m sure we will all be getting more sports massages from Kathryn in the near future. Thank you for making the Tour so successful, couldn’t have done it without you!
